Waratah (Telopea speciosissima)

Waratahs are erect shrubs growing about 2 metres tall with branches growing from the base of the plant.

The stunning flower heads are bright red, surrounded and supported by red bracts. The large leaves are stiff.

Waratahs grow along the coast and ranges between the Watagans and Ulladulla, preferring sandy soils in open forest under a eucalyptus canopy.

The Waratah is a pyrogenic plant, flowering prolifically after bush fires.
