Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae)

The Superb Lyrebird is a large bird with a grey-brown body, brown on its wings and a long tail.

They have powerful legs and feet, used for foraging and building their mounds.

Lyrebirds are excellent mimics & can repeat the calls of other birds, musical instruments, farm & building machinery perfectly.

The Superb Lyrebird is found in the forests of south-eastern Australia, from southern Queensland through to southern Victoria. In the Blue Mountains of New South Wales these birds inhabit rainforest & the fringes of sclerophyll forests.
