Satin Bower Bird

Male birds are black with a deep blue sheen. Females are a dull green colour with rufous wings and a lighter scalloped pattern underneath. Their eyes are a blue colour.

In the Blue Mountains of New South Wales these birds inhabit rainforest & the fringes of sclerophyl forests. They are shy birds & not seen often. Bowers might be stumbled upon in the bush.

Bowerbirds are mainly fruit eating birds. The male bird builds a bower of sticks which he looks after & decorates. The bower is used for courting. The male bower bird loves blue objects which are placed at the entrances to the bower.
