Tarpeian Rock is the remains of a huge old pagoda structure protruding into Rowens Hole.
Erosion has steadily hacked into the exposed face leaving the sheer cliff face that inspired the name.
In ancient Rome the Tarpeian Rock was a cliff where traitors were hurled to their deaths.
There are excellent views of the Moffit Pagodas and across Rowens Hole from this Tarpeian Rock.
