Mt Dingo

Maps: LPI Jenolan 89303N GR: 421 505 Track Notes: 06/05/2007 Comments: Mt Dingo is the most southerly of a chain of 5 peaks that form the backbone of the Wild Dog Mountains. It is probably best known for Splendour Rock, the Memorial to Bushwalkers killed in the 2nd World War. Mt Dingo is covered with dry sclerophyll forest and surrounded by cliffs. Access to the top is via Dingo Gap to the north or up a pass through the western cliffs. It is possible to climb down the cliffs from a portal under Splendour Rock via a set of chains. The chains are known as Thommo's Chains. They were installed in the early 1950s & are named after Bob Thomas. There are some excellent camp sites on Mt Dingo. There is no reliable water on Mt Dingo although after rain some water does collect in ephemeral rock pools at the north western end. You must carry your own water up to Mt Dingo. |
