Track Notes:

Comments:

The Caley Monument commemorates explorer George Caley & his companions who reach Mt Banks during their 1804 attempt to cross the Blue Mountains.

Had Caley followed the ridge from Mt Bell westwards instead of crossing Carmarthen Ridge to reach Mt Banks his party may have well made the 1st successful crossing of the Blue Mountains.

Instead he was turned back by the Grose Valley & its huge cliffs extending into the distance.

The crossing from Mt Bell to Mt Banks would have been extemely difficult with major obstacles like Thunder Gorge, Ranon Brook & Claustral Brook to be negotiated.
