Mt Airly is a large mesas just north of the Gardens of Stone.

Mt Airly was mined in the early 1900s for oil shale which was transported by tramway to the Oil Works as Torbane.  A coal mine is operating just to the west of Mt Airly.

There are many relics from the shale oil mining period on the eastern slopes of Mt Airly making the area archaeologically significant and sensitive.

The many exposed outcrops & pagodas on Mt Airly offer fantastic views including the old Torbane Oil Works to the west.
