There are strange sandstone rock formations in NSW National Parks which are known as Pagodas.  They are called this because their shape is reminiscent of real Pagodas.

While all Pagodas are sandstone their composition varies incredibly.  Some have very soft sections of pure white that almost seems to blow away in the wind.  Others have bands of iron that make them very strong.

Ironstone resists erosion.  As the pagodas wear away, the remant ironstone sections have strange & wonderful shapes - almost like decorations.

The Gardens of Stone National Park is renowned for its beautiful pagodas & strange rock formations.
