Family:  Cunoniaceae

Flowering Period:  October to November with red sepal in December and January.  The red sepals can still be seen in February in the upper mountains.

Distribution:  Widespread and commonly found growing in forest and woodland.  It prefers sheltered areas with sandy soil.  In damper areas, especially in gullies it can be a small tree.

Comments:  The Christmas Bush is a beautiful small tree with lots of white flowers.  After pollination the sepals enlarge and turn pink to red giving the Christmas Bush the colour it is famous for.
