Dragonflies are beautiful but primitive insects that depend on clean unpolluted water. Dragonfly larvae are aquatic, living in streams and rivers. Adult dragonflies are terrestrial insects spending most of their lives in the air. Both the larval and the adults forms of the dragonfly are predators. Adult dragonflies catch their prey on the wing. There are more than 300 species of dragonflies in Australia.
