Lyrebirds eat small insects, spiders, worms & seeds they they find while scratching in the ground.

In the Blue Mountains of New South Wales these birds inhabit rainforest & the fringes of sclerophyll forests.

The male Lyrebird builds a number of dirt mounds in his territory that he uses as a stage to attract mates.  He stands on the mound & poses his tail in the shape of a Lyre & sings.

Lyrebirds are excellent mimics & can repeat the calls of other birds, musical instruments, farm & building machinery perfectly.

Lyrebirds are extremely shy & secretive.

Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae)
