Genus: Esacus Description: The Beach Stone-Curlew is a large wading bird. It has a strong bill with a yellow base. It has stout legs & thick knees. Distribution: The Beach Stone-Curlew or Beach Thick-knee is a shorebird that inhabits mangroves & mudflats, beaches & reefs along the coast in northern Australia. It lays 1 egg in a nest located on sandbars, among mangroves or on sand sheltered by casuarinas. Comments: The Beach Stone-Curlew is considered 'vulnerable to extinction' in Qld.
